Check Your Date

Select a date to see whether it falls on a standard open day or the current August 2026 closure.

This independent tool uses the standard weekly schedule and the currently reported August 2026 closure. It does not replace official notices.

Weekly Closure

Closed Days

Hanauma Bay is normally closed to the public every Monday and Tuesday. Do not travel to the entrance expecting beach access on those days.

No Public EntryThe parking area, check-in process, and beach access are not part of the normal visitor schedule.
No Ticket DateThe reservation calendar should not release standard visitor times for regular closed days.
Plan Another DayBuild your itinerary around Wednesday through Sunday and keep a second open day available.

Important Difference

Last Entry

Last entry is 1:30 p.m. That does not mean the beach closes at 1:30 p.m. It means new visitors can no longer begin the admission process after that time.

TimeWhat It MeansVisitor Impact
1:30 p.m.Last public entryYou must already be admitted or completing the authorized entry process.
3:30 p.m.Beach clearingLeave the sand and water and begin returning uphill.
4:00 p.m.Preserve closesYou must be outside the nature preserve.
Do not plan around the cutoff.

Parking, check-in, orientation, gear preparation, and the walk to the beach all take time. A late arrival can leave very little usable beach time.

Timing Advice

Best Arrival

MorningBest overall choice for parking odds, cooler temperatures, and more time before beach clearing.
Late MorningStill workable, but traffic, parking pressure, wind, and shorter beach time can increase.
AfternoonMore rushed. A 1:30 p.m. last entry leaves limited time for the full arrival process and snorkeling.

Your reservation time is not a reason to arrive at the last minute. Read the parking guide and leave a realistic buffer.

Operational Changes

Sudden Closures

The standard schedule is not a guarantee that the preserve will open. Hanauma Bay has closed temporarily for severe weather, unsafe ocean conditions, wildlife incidents, fallen trees, maintenance, and infrastructure work.

WeatherHeavy rain, high wind, flooding, fallen trees, or unsafe access may close the preserve.
Ocean SafetyRough water, hazardous conditions, or emergency response can change beach access.
OperationsRepairs, sewer work, facility failures, or other infrastructure needs may require closure.
Holiday schedule

A fixed 2026 holiday closure list was not confirmed in the official material reviewed for this build. Treat holidays as dates that require a fresh official check rather than assuming normal hours.

Build the Day

Plan Around Hours

Reserve First

Choose an open day and understand when the booking window opens. A date on your itinerary is not enough without valid admission access.

Reservation guide

Leave a Backup Day

Do not place Hanauma Bay on your final available day. A closure or poor conditions can remove your only chance to visit.

Plan your visit

Match Parking

Admission hours and parking availability are separate. Earlier arrival generally gives you more flexibility.

Parking guide

Watch the Clock

The beach clears at 3:30 p.m. Allow enough time to leave the water, pack gear, use facilities, and walk uphill.

Quick Answers

FAQs

What days is Hanauma Bay open?

The standard schedule is Wednesday through Sunday. The preserve is normally closed Monday and Tuesday.

What time does entry begin?

Public entry begins at 6:45 a.m. on standard open days.

What is the last entry time?

Last public entry is 1:30 p.m. This is not the same as beach clearing or the final preserve closing time.

What time is the beach cleared?

The beach is cleared at 3:30 p.m. Visitors must leave the nature preserve by 4:00 p.m.

Can I enter after 1:30 p.m.?

Do not plan on it. The published last entry time is 1:30 p.m., and late arrival can also leave too little time for check-in and the beach.

Are there summer and winter hours?

The current official visitor schedule publishes one standard set of hours rather than separate seasonal schedules. Older articles may contain outdated times.

Can the preserve close on an open day?

Yes. Weather, ocean conditions, wildlife incidents, maintenance, and infrastructure work can cause temporary closures.

How do I check before leaving?

Check the official Honolulu reservation system and current city notices. The state visitor page also advises that changes can happen at any time.
